Coming from Loudoun county Virginia, William T. Lemon only completed three consecutive years of high school, and then dropped out for undiscovered reasons. He became a plumber, gas fitter and steam fitter and was never married.
Army Career:
Enlisting at the age of 23, Lemon joined the United States Army, 116th Infantry Regiment, and 29th Infantry Division as a Technical Sergeant. He was a soldier in one of the first waves of men to attack on the Normandy beaches on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day. He died days later on Saturday, June 17, 1944 He served a total of three years.
Authors Note:
William Lemon's story, although relatively short, should be told. As a historian, I have found that while his records are scarce, his contributions to the freedom of men are tremendous, and should be honored. We take for granted our freedom as Americans, and soldiers like those who fought during the D-Day invasions are remembrances of why we have our freedom, and how everyone should have deliverance. God bless America and God bless our military.
